It has always been a curious condition that the lender organizations are not better supported by their industry. I know Realtors are a captured audience with the NAR but they are also one of the most powerful industry lobbyists in the country. Even if one doesn’t go to meetings and get involved, write a check and help the groups that keep the dogs off your feet work for you. Plus there is a ton of info, resources and networking at your fingertips any time you need it.
Real benefits drive membership – NAR – MLS = 95% penetration; NAMB Lack of Focus drives 3% penetration. When benefits become real and necessary membership increases – makes the voice more credible. Promises are not benefits.

Real estate agents earn to a large extent by successful collaboration with competing agents. LO’s earn by keeping business away from competing agents, really a different mind set, with radically different patterns of communication. They want to build long term relationships of trust with agents at competing firms, loan officers want competing firms to shut down. Over simplifying a bit, but that is the jist of it.
