Comparing taxes from one state / community to another is pointless & misleading. In your example of New York State & Florida, you are obviously not considering the fact that many communities in New York must spend a lot on snow removal every winter. In addition, many communities in New York State provide many services that must be paid separately in many other states. For example, NYS cities / towns typically provide curbside trash collection, but in other places, that is separate. Some even provide sewer and / or water included in the tax bill. I am not saying that government can’t be better, but it is not fair to only tell part of the story. Some communities provide more services than others, so one would expect a higher tax bill.
