I’ve worked with builders for over 40 years and they would love to “Build Cheaper Homes”. The fact is municipalities require large lot sizes – increasing lot costs. They require things like sidewalks and trails – which can add up to $9,000 to the price of the lots. The approval process takes over a year, sometimes 2; which adds to the cost. Some municipalities have minimum home sizes. Getting mixes residential uses (R-1, duplex, condo, apt) all take longer and are very tough to get approved. Builders Build cheaper homes is easy to say…..almost impossible to accomplish
