What about the building trades, auto mechanic, or garbage collector? The big problems most young people have getting into a commission sales position are, the lag time before you start making any decent money, and the inconsistent income. Then, once they get going, it’s remembering to save, pay into your retirement plan, and pay taxes out of each and every commission check. All too often, we see that illusive 10%er who looks like they just may have the skills and self directed work ethic to succeed, get to April 15th and realize that they owe 1/3 of their income to Uncle Sam, but have not saved or paid in a dime.
My 24 year old daughter is a real estate broker, like my wife and me. No degree, also like us, but she closes about $12-$15M a year after only 4 years in the industry. So much for higher education.
good show – I am going to refrain from speaking ill about anyone in our industry. However for all you green horns out there please do yourself a huge favor and find some one with more than 10 yrs. experience and learn the good the bad and the ugly from them. You will save yourself a ton of money in huge mistakes, and you will give your clients really great customer service.
