The real question is who’s email was really compromised? Hackers usually have no ideal a consumer has a transaction. My guess is hackers are watching the obvious parties to real estate transactions such as Title, Lender or Realtor. Here the Title company gave this consumer a “spoke person” position for the same amount of the lost. Just a observation.
